The animation short films OS OLHOS DO FAROL (The Eyes Of The Lighthouse) by Pedro Serrazina and VIAGEM A CABO VERDE (Journey To Cape Verde) by José Miguel Ribeiro will take part of the official selection of the 54th BFI London Film Festival 2010, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the U.K. and that will be held in London between the 13th and the 28th of October.

The fiction short-film VOODOO by Sandro Aguilar will be in th einternational competition of the Split Film Festival – International Festival of New Film to be held between the 11th and th 18th of September in the croatian city of Split. A festival “open to all new, innovative, personal, experimental, radical, subversive etc. work (film, video, new media) of all genres and lengths, preferably from outside the mainstream, whether it was made on shoe string budget, or is a studio release”.

All Miguel Gomes’ short films as well as his two feature films “Aquele Querido Mês de Agosto” (Our Beloved Month of August, 2008) and “A Cara Que Mereces” (The Face You Deserve, 2004) will be in exhibition in the last third of 2010 in some of the most importatnt and prestigious cinematheques and institutions around the United States.
The retrospective opens in New Yok, at the Anthology Film Archives, on September the 3rd. It will proceed, with the presence of Miguel Gomes, at the Northwest Film Forum, in Seattle and in Harvard. Afterwards the retrospective will carry on in, among others, Washington, Chicago, LA, Portland…
The Harvard Film Archive presents Miguel Gomes as a representative director of one of the most innovative currents in contemporary filmmaking. His short films are described as a “refreshingly eccentric” series that reveals “his innate talents as a sensual visual stylist interested in an intensely image based narrative in which music plays an equal role to dialogue”.

The animation short films OS OLHOS DO FAROL (Eyes of the Lighthouse) by Pedro Serrazina, SMOLIK by Cristiano Mourato and PÁSSAROS (Birds) by Filipe Abranches will take part of the one hundred internationally selected short animated films to be presented between the 15th and the 17th of October in Segovia (Spain) during the Animation 3D and Video Games International Market 3D WIRE.

The animation short film MI VIDA EN TUS MANOS (My Life In Your Hands) by Nuno Beato was chosen to be part of the 16th International Short Film Festival in Drama, to be held between the 21st and 26th of September in Drama, Greece.

The Granada International Young Filmmakers Festival selected the short films O ESTRANGEIRO (The Foreigner) by Ivo M. Ferreira for the International Competition – Experimental /Documentary and the OS OLHOS DO FAROL (Eyes of the Lighthouse) by Pedro Serrazina for the International Competition – Animation. The festival will be held in Granada (Spain) between the 23rd and the 30th of October.

The fiction short VICKY AND SAM by Nuno Rocha, after its Portuguese premier at the Curtas Vila do Conde, will attend the Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the USA, that will be held between the 10th and the 15th of August in venues around Providence.

The short film touring programme Agência, a decade in short films will be presented between the 14th and the 17th of September at the Auditorium of Instituto Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre of Praia, Cape Verde. The programmes in exhibition are: “Travelogues”, “Out of the Water”, “Escape” and “The Sound of Music”.

UM DIA FRIO (A Cold Day) by Cláudia Varejão and CANÇÃO DE AMOR E SAÚDE (Song of Love and Health) by João Nicolau, two of the most highlighted Portuguese short films in this last year and, PASSEIO DE DOMINGO (Sunday Drive) by José Miguel Ribeiro, were selected for the official competition at the Ourense International Film Festival, to take place in Ourense (Galicia, Spain) between the 1st and the 9th of October. A special occasion for the festival and motif for special programmes since it is its 15th edition and it happens on a Jubilee Year (aka. Ano Santo Xacobeo).

SMOLIK by Cristiano Mourato added a new distinction in its both national and international festival journey: a Special Distinction for Short Films – School and Graduation Category at the SICAF 2010 14th Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (21 to 27 July, Seoul, South Korea).

The most recent animation short film by José Miguel Ribeiro (director of A SUSPEITA and PASSEIO DE DOMINGO), VIAGEM A CABO VERDE (Journey to Cape Verde), a journey to the inner-self through the Cape Verde landscapes full of delicious details taken out of the the director’s travel notebook, was awarded with the Prize Animation and the Prize Onda-Curta at the 18th Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival (3 to 11 July, Vila do Conde, Portugal).
Also highlighted was SMOLIK by the young director Cristiano Mourato since it won the Prize Take One! for school films.
This 18th edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde chose “Colivia” by the director Adrian Sitaru (Romania, 2009) to give the Great Prize “City of Vila do Conde” and À CÔTÉ by Basil da Cunha as the Best Film in the National Competition.
